87|09 Special | "Lady Love," LeToya

|
Former DC member LeToya Luckett released her sophomore album, Lady Love, last Tuesday. I wasn't planning on copping the album; for one, I hadn't bought her debut although the "Torn Remix" was a cold track; and two, her first single "Not Anymore" hadn't done anything for me. "She Ain't Got..." had hit potential, but honestly I didn't like the video. Thank goodness for the internet, cause the new single "Regret," ft. Ludacris is something special. I hope the video is coming soon. Here are my thoughts on the album.
  • All around it is a very solid R&B album w/ a few guest appearances. A nice mix between mid-tempo ballads and feisty cuts. It does run a little long though, but fans of hers and R&B will be pleased.
  • Hot tracks : "Regret," "Lazy," "Take Away Love ft. Estelle," "Good to Me"
  • If you cop through iTunes, you can welcome a bonus cut, "Don't Let Me Get Away"
In conclusion I think it's an invested purchase for those who are true R&B fans.

New New | All-4-One readys album

|
An easily forgotten staple in 90s R&B, All-4-One is back and readying an album for the year '09. You probably remember this group for their hit smash "I Swear" as well as "I Can Love You Like That" and "(She's Got) Skillz." Click above to hear a track from the new project No Regrets. Its entitled "My Child" and has a very soulful sound. This is grown folks music. Album slated for Sept. 15th. Shout to 90sToInfinty.

8709 Special | Bridging the Gap

|
I am highly excited about this collaboration right here. Hip-hop vet Chubb Rock and newcomer Wordsmith are set to release their album "Bridging the Gap" proving new and old school hip-hop can live in lyrical harmony. The first single "Old 2 the New" was hot as well as the title track. Album drops July 14th! Check out the Myspace.

'09 | BLACKsummers'night, Maxwell

|
Take a break from your scavenger hunt for Michael material to be blessed with what will be one of the best R&B albums of the year. Yesterday Maxwell released the highly-anticipated BLACKsummers'night, his first studio album since 2001's Now. The nine-track set envelopes listeners to a sound of R&B from the past, similar to the work of Al Green who Maxwell honored in his comeback performance at last year's BET Awards. On the push of the first single "Pretty Wings," a somber swan song to a lost love, Maxwell works effortlessly to evoke such emotion and honesty in his lyrics that current R&B has missed. In "Cold" he urgently describes the woman whose frozen his heart on top of warm horns. And with "Fistful of Tears" he tackles the lamenting compromises it takes to keep a relationship's love alive. Even the ending instrumental "Pheonix Rise" is electrifying, signaling the return of a true artist and the return of R&B music to the fullest. No featured rap artist or auto-tune.

'09 | We Are Not Losers, We are Lasers

|
Sighted @ the Smoking Section, Lupe Fiasco's trailer for his upcoming album. The message he's presenting has the potential to change the way we've seen hip-hop and culture as a whole. Kanye hinted at it with the Dropout; I see Lu making it reality right here. If people open their minds to something more than the current cool.

'07 | GO!

|
If this had been the lead single to Mario's third album, he would have gained the much-needed momentum and respect he deserved after the success of "Let Me Love You." I have yet to purchase the album myself, but will soon. This, "Music for Love", and "Skippin'" all on one album. Dude is underrated.

'09 | The 'Day' is approahcing

|
After weeks of monumental tantrums, texting betrayals, and tears of forgiveness, MTB4 stars Day26 will release their sophomore album Forever in a Day. I bought their last album to support the group of talented artists and R&B music. But recent antics definitely had me on pause mode. I hit up the Leak at MTV.com and was impressed with certain songs.
  • 4-Think of Me
  • 5-Stadium Music - a thumping track; i believe will be their next single
  • 6-Bipolar - the experimentation musically intrigued me
  • 7-Perfectly Blind - beautiful harmonies
  • 11-Then There's You - ode to the love of their life
I saw growth in the lyrics and appreciated the different sounds. I felt there were more solid tracks; not as much filler. It is a lil' long though, but we will see what happens.
