'88 | SUPERSONIC

They've been mistaken as Salt-N-Pepa all over Limewire, and may have had only one hit. But this is classic 80s music. The ending is fire, isn't it Fergie.

PBP | Why are we surprised!?!

Ramirez suspended 50 games for steroid use.

'87 | My love was true

Aware this post is late. I returned home for summer break this morning. Posts will remain frequent but be less once I start working.
My favorite song by Ms. Watley. She was the 80s Rihanna. Talented. Exotic. One of a kind.

'90 | Looks like I'm fatal

While this album was a success, it apparently did not compare to her first to efforts. It still remains one of my favorite songs by Ms. Houston. I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

New New | I'm Still Fly

I have no clue who Page is, but Drake alerted me. The song goes hard sampling the Hood Rich classic. Shouts to Nah Right

'02 | Got ev'rythaaang, in my mama naaaaaame

As triflin as it may have been to have your ish in your mother's name, this song was too big to resist.

'98 | That is what you are

Might have been in fourth grade when this dropped. Every kid was singing the hook, not knowing what the hell "Islands in the Stream" was about. Halle's first video, with her second one coming years later.

New New | The Cool Kids

Downloading as we read, When Fishes Ride Bicycles this year. Thanks 2dopeboyz for the ZIP file.

411 | MVP

The votes have spoken. LeBron James has been selected as NBA's 2009 Most Valuable Player. Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade followed. He has definitely fulfilled the hype expectations discussed since his initiation. Much respect, because I know I can't play a lick of anybody's basketball.

'93 | Oooohhh Chiiiiiillld

Wish I had been old enough to listen to Tupac at the time. The first renaissance man of hip-hop, our generation's Marvin Gaye.

'99 | Cause a chick's gotta live

Off of Missy's sophomore album Da Real World. While Supa Dupa Fly seemed like it landed from outer space, this album brought Missy to the hood, slanging a tougher more intense persona. Nicole Wray is a beast! Why can't she get another album?

411 | Caught out there?

It has sadly been confirmed that Nas & Kelis, the first Jay & 'B, have called it a quits. I don't think anyone expected this unfortunate turnout. According to the affidavit collected by Vibe magazine, Kelis cited Nas as unfaithful and verbally abusive. Being that she is pregnant with their first child, divorce may be the best option. Ironic how I had just talked about her haunting heartbreak ballad.

'87 | The Chipmunk Adventure

You are not an 80sbby if you have not seen this movie. The Chipmunk Adventure is a classic in animation. The 2007 reboot does not even come close to eclipsing the memories I get from checking this out from our local library at least once a month, and weekly during the summer. It's a kid's dream: adventure, suspense, comedy, and songs. The songs were outrageous. The best one is below:

The entire film is on YouTube as well!

New New | the Wizard of IZ

New mixtape from the funky Timbo creation Izza Kizza. The follow-up to his Kizzaland, the IZ finds himself trailing the yellow brick road with Nick Catchdubs on this take. The tape's backdrop plays out like a trip to Oz - from The Wiz of course. His style is a cross between the awkward funk of Missy Elliott and a new school humor similar to Biz Markie. Visit his Myspace page for download.
